In this last moment before our
public promise,
we stand separate,
despite our hearts, minds and souls’
entertainment of a forever
co-mingled breath.
We turn our lives inward
toward the mind’s eye:
The promise we make together,
not about what might be,
but what is–in every moment
the slice of life given, the gift
of just that.
To live side-by-side in our
hearts, open and bird free,
a daily lifting and landing–
the continuing possibility of soaring
flight between us.
When I reach my hand toward
your hand, even in darkness, it is a joining,
a beginning of some deeper union
beyond words, beyond sound,
it is the sharing of the soul’s code,
nothing so simple as love.
