Submit an Article to Arts PerspectiveSW Colorado Arts Perspective is looking for writer’s to share their perspective. Vibrant, original, and in-depth writing is the essence of our magazine. Our goal is to educate the reader about the visual arts, literary arts, theatre arts, movement arts, musical arts, and culinary arts in Southwest Colorado. We want to inspire people to participate in, and provide support to, the arts. When writing about an artist, performer, musician, or writer, we are looking for articles that capture the vision of the creative person by taking the reader into their studio, into their work and into their lives. We are also looking for articles on the creative process. We are looking for active, positive, and visceral representations of the arts using Associated Press style—short, clear sentence structure, and active voice. We will give priority to artists that have upcoming events, projects, shows, or whose body of work will motivate the reader to get involved. Please keep in mind that we print only in black and white. SW Colorado Arts Perspective is not interested in using articles previously published in the region unless the writer can provide a unique and different spin on the story—in other words, give us the story the other publication didn’t print. If your work is currently being considered at another publication, or if your work has been previously published, you MUST indicate this in your email or cover letter. If your work is accepted elsewhere before receiving notice from Arts Perspective, please inform the editor immediately. Please query the editor via email at sonja@artsperspective.com
and include two samples of your journalistic writing. Include your
name, address, email, and telephone number on all submissions. We
want to know whom we are dealing with, so please include in your
cover letter or email a brief, but interesting biography. We will try to respond as soon as possible. However, turnaround time may vary. Arts Perspective cares about your privacy. Any personal information you submit, will not be shared with anyone, without your consent. We pay $75 upon publication, for any section article of 750-800 words. We pay $100 for a feature article of no more than 1,000 words. Once an article has been put into production and a contract has been signed, the writer becomes part of the creative process through continued dialogue with the editor. The writer will be paid in full if the piece is on time and of a professional quality that is on a par with the rest of the publication's editorial content, submitted as a Microsoft Word Document. When applicable, Writer agrees to provide 3-5 high quality digital images (minimum 300 DPI) to accompany the Article listed above. The writer can find and work with a photographer of their choosing, take their own photographs or make other arrangements as agreed upon by the Art Director. Compensation for photographs is at the discretion of the Art Director. Upon receipt of a query, the editor may ask to see several paragraphs of the story before making a decision about whether or not to put it into production. If the editor asks to see more information, this is not a commitment to publish the writer’s work.
