Working with Arts Perspective
Founded in the early spring of 2004 by Shared Vision Publishing,
Arts Perspective is a quarterly arts niche magazine working to
bring readers into the studios, lives and processes of the artists
in southwest Colorado.
Because we believe in sharing a vision and working collaboratively,
we work with many different writers covering all disciplines of
art: visual, music, performance, literary, politics, process, conceptual,
culinary, etc. Each issue is based on a theme to create an overall
view and in-depth coverage of that subject. Some issues are literal:
drawing, photography, literary. Other themes are more conceptual/abstract:
improv, movement, retro.
Our editorial protocol has been redeveloped in order to share
more perspectives and accommodate more voices. We want to feature
both experienced and new writers. The magazine is a reflection
of our arts community, and we welcome all queries.
In order to better serve you and our readers, please understand
the following process:
- Email, phone or snail mail us, or set up an appointment
to visit in person with your story idea. If you contact us in
writing, please provide a one-page synopsis of your idea and
a link or reference to an example of your work.
- We are also happy to read anything on spec. Manuscripts
should be typed, double-spaced, and no more than 4 pages in length.
If mailed, please include an SASE with your manuscript if you
would like it returned to you. Please number the pages, do not
use staples, and do not fold your manuscript. If your work is
currently being considered by another publication, or if your
work has been previously published, you must indicate this in
your email or cover letter. If your work is accepted elsewhere
before receiving notice from Arts Perspective, please inform
the publisher immediately.
- Once your work has been reviewed, we will do our best
to respond in a timely manner depending on our production schedule.
If there is a theme you are writing for, please give us 2-5 months
advance notice. If you have an idea, but are not sure how it
fits into an upcoming issue, please contact us anyway. We are
interested in your perspective.
- Upon acceptance of an idea or article for publication,
the creative and editorial process begins. We will support you
in the process by giving direction, and we will work together to
come up with accompanying photographs or illustrations. Your article
will be edited. We provide copy editing to put you and your subject
matter in the best light while adhering to the magazine’s
AP style guidelines.
- In order to preserve the integrity of our publication,
artists and advertisers, we do not publish previously written
articles or variations of articles that have been published locally.
Any article published by us may not be published elsewhere and
any variations must be published at least 3 months after our
publication date.
- The publisher determines the editorial focus of the
magazine and welcomes all thoughts, ideas and feedback for past
and future issues.
We look forward to hearing from you and sharing the vision!
